What frightens us most is the thought of being afraid. That is the greatest fear. Nothing puts us in more danger than our own mind and when what we are frightened of actually happens, it is never as bad as we imagined. There is no protection against fear. Even when we think that we have found some safety, we still wonder if our defenses are reliable and this uncertainty destroys our security.

We create fear and we can uncreate it. It is a habit that can be broken. A good remedy against fear is to actively provoke it. Instead of feeling helpless we confront our worst fear. If you are frightened of losing something, give it away. If heights scare you, climb to a high place. If you are terrified of speaking in public, stand before an audience. This is the simplest way of mastering fear.

"Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. And, the only way to get through fear is to face it head on.

Do you watch Lost? I got this from Jack. I let the fear take over for like 1 minute and during that minute, I'm petrified, my knees shake, my throat closes and I succumb to weakness.

But just for 1 minute. 1 minute is all I give the fear.

    After that... it's game on.

And who knows? There might be a chance that...

You confront that which you are afraid of (i.e. public speaking or rejection). If it's what I consider an "irrational" fear like fear of death or growing old, you have to realize that both are natural processes and that fear of them is not an option. You have to accept the fact that one day we all will be dead or getting old and enjoy the ride. If it's something you can do something about, change it. If it's something you can't do anything about, accept it and get on with life.

It really depends on what it is you are afraid of.

You can't. Fear is a natural human process. You can face it though. Force yourself to do something that scares you and it may go away once you come through it all right. But fear itself is normal and will remain with you in some form forever.

focus, keep in mind that the only one who can help yourself is you. always try your best not to run away from it until you succeed.. envision yourself that you've conquered that fear, always be positive and tell yourself you can do it.

I use standard spelling (including capitalizing the first word in a sentence) unless space and/or time is limited, which it is not here. Obviously, if one reads just a few of the missives posted here, very few people agree with me, and that's there right.

To understand what I fear about. To really understand it. In understanding it, I gain some power to face it.

"Courage is resistance to fear; mastery of fear - not absence of fear." - Mark Twain

I don't believe you ever eliminate fear. Fear is programmed into us for survival. But you can control fear.

Educating yourself about what you are afraid of is probably the best way. Many times we have false ideas about what we are afraid of that increases our fears. Remember, the imagined fears are usually the worse one. If you know the facts, it has a calming affect.

Facing your fears once you understand them is next, because it is proof positive that your fear is usually unfounded.

I do know what is the worse thing you can do when it comes to fears. That is hide your head in the sand. It becomes like rabbits or cockroaches.....it multiples!

To face your fear is one of the options, but not always good for girls!
Some of the very title part of your brain(One of from thousands of departments, let's put this way) is generating your fear. Just "fire all the employees of this department" Remember what ever you think that's what you are attracting!

Here's something that a friend's cousin, she's 14 years old but she is so wise for her age...she told me:

"To get over your fear you have to put it right in front of you."

I was so inspired by that. :D So that's what I try to do, I remember those words and try to get over my fear.

I'm 23. I haven't heard anything like that from anyone my age. Wow. Truely amazing. :D

Understanding it, then attacking it until it becomes annoying instead of scary. You will never enjoy your fear or feel neutral towards it but you can get it to a point where it doesn't control you anymore.

The way I understand it, fear is your greatest weapon to save your life. There was a guy on tv who wrote a book about fear, and his theory is how fear is directly linked to your inner intuition, and if that intuition says anything to you at all about someone or a situation, then listen. He gave real life stories and examples of how some women would listen to the fear and would save their life from being murdered, etc. And also there were other women who did not listen and ended up being raped.

So, if this has any truth to it, I do not want to lose my fear, but learn how to listen to it closer and use it to my advantage.

    Thanks for reading!

Why would you want to? I mean feeling fear is a natural instinct sometimes to keep us out of harms way or even fear for another person can sometimes help us watch more closely over them...

Facing your fear doesn't eliminate it completely but it can help settle some uncomfortable feelings a bit.

If you mean fear of everyday things (life in general)....like the first day of school or new job,....meeting new people,...first date,....etc.,....then one could possibly retrain how they view and think of these kinds of situations...maybe try thinking of them as if they were new adventures, something exciting rather than scary....
