Fellow wiccans please help, how do I tell if it's cursed?

A self proclaimed wiccan gave me a necklace, we do not get along so I was taken by surprise when she handed it to me, I am wondering how to tell if she did place a curse on it or a charm or spell, I am wiccan but my expertise lays more in the energy fields and spiritual world, thank you for any answers, Blessed Be!

Merry Meet Wix,

Your question I am assuming is in regards to a necklace that a person who does not get along with you gave you, correct? If this is the case please remember that if they are a true Wiccan, even though they don’t agree with you or even get along with you it is not the Wiccan way to cause harm especially in ways of cursing. If the did curse it or tag it then they are not a true Wiccan they fallow a different path.

Now let’s assume that their intention is less then honorable and they did curse the necklace, would it not be more prudent of you to give it back or get rid of it altogether? Is it worth the energies used by you to go through this drama, let alone having to go through the procedure of cleansing the item in question? Even if you cleanse it, every time you wear it you will wonder if you did it right. Even if you did it right, every time you wear it you will always think of the person whom gave it to you, by which automatically connecting energies to the other person.

There are methods of zeroing the energy and completely breaking all ties from the giver, but again is that item really that important?

I hope this blurp helps out.

Blessed Be

I really am confused why you posted a question like this. If she really is Wiccan, she cannot harm you in any way. It is the basic rule if you are following Wicca. You should know it too...

If you are truly worried and practice witchcraft as well try a banishing negativity spell.

Wow some people are just rude.

Does it contain silver? If it does, then it doesn't have a curse attached to it.

Don't know why the thumbs down. You can't curse silver objects or objects containing oak. You can only charm them.

You'll have to cast "Detect Magic" or "Read Magic" on it. Both are 1st level spells, so it should be fairly simple.

It's all about mind over matter...you can convince yourself of anything...if you believe it's cursed..it will be. If it bothers you that much, do a purifying charm on it and throw it out.

An Edit: I'm not Wiccan, nor am I anything in particular, I just know some stuff about it.

Well this is all about energy fields actually. If you have any sensitivity in that department you should be able to tell if there is negative energy attached to an object.

I doubt whether it is cursed. Most wiccans believe that any negativity they project in circle can easily be projected back at them threefold. The crede says, ¨So be it Love that harms None¨. If you are unsure though, you can do a cleansing ritual, or leave the necklace on your windowsill in the moonlight all night. Blessed be.

Witchcraft 101 here (and nothing at all to do with Wicca). You didn't specify what it's made of so either put the necklace under running water, smudge it with sage, or leave it out under the full moon to cleanse it of all negative energy. Just as an FYI, you should do this anyway with any object you receive or buy that is of of a metaphysical nature.

When in doubt I suggest you take no chances.

I am confused though. Why did you accept it if you think that this persons intentions are not pure.
I would have dumped it in the nearest bin and not given it another thought.

    I am not wiccan.

It is indeed cursed. When the goblins show up (and they will!), draw your vorpal sword and roll a 20 to slay.

If you stop to think about your question, "how do I tell if it's cursed", that question itself may cut to the heart of the issue. But you may not be interested in following where it leads.

What's the difference between a "cursed" necklace, and one that isn't? Does it weigh more or less? Does it look different? Does its chemical composition change; or can we detect any radiation emanating from it?

The answer to all these things is, of course, no. There is no way to tell if something is cursed, because there is no such thing. The necklace is just a physical object. The idea of "cursing" is simply a belief you hold: that some person may, because of malicious intent, speak magical words, and then somehow, your life will be detrimentally affected by wearing it.

The universe is a vast and complex place, and our place within it small. It may give some sort of comfort to believe that simply having intentions, good or bad, or speaking certain words can affect the course of events. It may give a sense of power, when we feel so powerless. But these are simply beliefs, and nothing more.

There are no curses, or energy fields (other than those studied by physicists, and described scientifically), or spiritual world. These are things people made up because they sound nice; not things that exist independently of thoughts and beliefs. It's simply superstition, which hopefully an intelligent young woman will dismiss as such.

By believing in this "curse", you are giving this other person power over you: the ability to affect your emotions and your reactions (so far as to go to a bunch of strangers and ask them what to do). If you like the person, then accept the gift and enjoy it, or if you do not, or suspect her intent was wrongful, then return it.

It's definetely a poison curse. Are you buffed against dark and poison? If not, then use the Escape Rope and get the hell out of there.

If you are ok, and your armor absorbs it, use Dispell on it, it may not work the first time, just keep trying. It shouldn't have another form once it's defeated, just keep your potions handy, and remember, ALWAYS have a member of your party casting Barrier whenever possible.

Just stick with it, the amount of EXP you get will be well worth it.

If you shave your legs and the hair falls to the left, it's cursed. If it falls to the right, it's a bunny. I know, it sounds crazy, but So did Edgar Cayce and look at him... well look at his life before people found out he really was crazy.

I'm a fan of salt water, myself. Sage is good for things that can't get wet, but a necklace? Salt water, baby. It's also good for cleansing crystals after reiki, same principle applies.

Put it in a blender with one raw egg and some tabasco sauce. Pulse twice, then finish in whip mode for 2 minutes. Should solve all your problems.

I think you're missing a larger point. A person you don't get along with has given you a gift.

Maybe she is trying to make things better between you?

I would ask if maybe you are the one bringing negativity into this transaction? Maybe you should take it at face value: an honest gift.

Frankly, no one gives "cursed" gifts, Wiccans or anyone else. If someone is giving you a gift, they are trying to make you feel better about them. I say go with it. If you respond in kind, maybe you will lift the "curse" that has been haunting your relationship.

you can neutralize any black magick in the necklace with a love spell, and here's the easiest way to do it: just suspend the necklace from the rear view mirror of your car and drive through a carwash (windows up!) with led zeppelin's "whole lotta love" playing fortissimo on your cd deck. this will cleanse your necklace and your car at the same time.

The curse of the mummy is just a figure of speech. Vomiting locusts for a thousand years is just an old wives tale. The real curse of the mummy is that he is completely socially inept, devoid of all manners, gold-digging, manipulative, and a selfish brat. Don't ever wake him unless you have a lot of time and money on your hands. Thank you for buying Mummies for Dummies.

"A dragon may have many mouths, but the truth is not always the same."

The answers given by our atheist friends, though inelegant and dogmatic, are largely correct. Most curses work by exploiting the target's fear and superstition about curses and then letting her believe that anything bad that happens later is caused by the curse.

Reality is what it is, but we can choose what it means to us. Don't let other people define your reality for you - that is sorcery.

For all of you who seem to know all about the universe and don't believe in curses, bad energy, good energy or the like:

Have you ever been to a high school basketball game and cheered a team on to win? Have you ever seen an underdog team win?

Underdog's win more home games than away games. In fact all sports teams are likely to win more home games than away games. It's on the news every single day. Why do you think sports anchors always tell us if the game is to be played at home or away, especially if it's a critical game?

Why do you think sports forecasters are wrong 10-20% of the time, after-all, they're using formulas, facts, and statistics? We can argue how often they are wrong, probably because said forecasters don't fully understand the universe either.

It's called the human spirit - human will. Dig out your physics books and describe the formula, the theory, or the mathematical principals that make this very real phenomena possible. Then post your answer here.

Obviously you don't know as much about our universe as you thought you did, and neither did your teachers.

Some of these people really need to realise that you're probably asking this question legitimately.

Anyways, I'm not Wiccan, but I started out as one. As an earlier answer said, if she cursed it, she is no true Wiccan, and may just be a trend-whore. In my experience, curses/bad magic tend to leave a certain print in the energy field of the object, so searching the energy field for something "off" might help you out. Charms and spells also tend to leave specific prints, but those are more dependent on the person imbuing them.

If you're really that concerned about the object, meditate on it for a while. See what your god/goddess(es) tell you about it. Personally--and I don't know if this works for everyone--I would recommend attempting to create sacred space within the necklace itself. If it's a pretty necklace, it might be worth keeping. The creation of sacred space within the necklace will cleanse it, sort of like rewriting a CD. After that, if you still get a bad feeling from it, leave it out under the full moon.

Based on my experience, the above should work beautifully in clearing out anything unwanted from the necklace. Keep in mind, though, that she could just want to be friends with you, and gave you the necklace as a way to say "Hey, sorry for the bad feelings, but can we try to get along". Also, just ask her about it! It's never to early to start a conversation, and who knows, maybe you'll both learn something new from talking with each other!

    ...*looks at post* Sorry for the long essay. ^_^;;
