Cant see new hard drive?

Question

I just installed a new hard drive with SATA. it shows up on the device manager and appears to be working fine but i dont see it in 'My Computer'. i guess i have to format it or something but ive never had a hard drive now show up as a drive automatically. how do i get this thing working?

Additional Details

im not seeing how to make a new partition. ied like to use the XP interface to do it, not command prompt.

i forgot i had partition magic on my computer. so nevermind i got it.

Try going in Administrative Tools (I think you can find it in Control Panel). Choose Computer management and you have Disk management there. You can format the hard drive from there.

ended up using partition magic, but this was what i was looking for in the first place.

Go to Device Manager and partition this hard drive, and then format it. When an HD is new, it's literally blank and unpartitioned. Windows can see the "device" it self, but Windows won't acknowledge any unpartitioned space on a hard drive.
