it looks like she has black paint on her right shoulder

That is Kinesio Tape, developed in Japan for elastic support of muscles to allow muscles to relax and keep them from spasming. This tape also acts as a support. It is used in conjunction with the anatomy of the muscle and the use of the muscle that needs support.

She had surgery on her shoulder and the doctor put that black tape that relaxes it and keeps it secure. It keeps the circulation going and relieves her pain, which she needs to do more then anything right now. GO USA!!

I was wondering the same thing - came online to find out, no luck. But my fiance did hear on TV that it's a shoulder brace, because she's had like 3 shoulder surgeries is what I read online.

Honestly my first thought was that she had some tattoo that had to be covered because she's in China, but that's not the case! It's some fancy shoulder brace - modern medicine, go figure.

It's called Kinesio-taping and is usually applied by therapists, not physicians...it's pretty much voodoo, but some people get some benefits from it.

So is there something special about the tape or the pattern of the tape? Is it just black athletic tape, in an artistic pattern, or is it something special about the tape and the pattern?

I had a bad ankle strain last year and my chiro (who uses lots of acupressure techniques) wrapped it with a very light cloth tape and believe me it made such a difference for being something that didn't feel like anything at all. There's gotta be a psychological componet to this as well. ie. it "feels" better

It's Kinesio Taping. Like people have said. Used mostly by Pt's and chiropractors. I myself have taken the classes and become certified here in CO. Pretty amazing results.

Thank you for asking. I came to the net searching for the black blob tattoo that seems so dark on such a lovely shoulder. It looked like tape or paint or something and now I know she is recovering from shoulder surgery and it is not a permanent Blob.

Performchiro and julmme pretty much said it all. My wife and I thought it was a tattoo at first as other did, until I heard the announcer mention what it was then I just HAD to Google it!
