Who are your favorite living authors?

I am talking about authors who aren't necessarily genre writers. For example NO vampire, scifi, romance novels.

Additional Details

I was asking for NON-genre writers, NOT vampires, sci fi, etc. jk rowling, anne rice and that twilight author are genre writers.

I was trying to keep the list focused on unique voices in writing, like martin amis, atwood, etc
