Why do some men treat their wives and girlfriends like dirt?

Yesterday my wife and I are eating out. One table over from us the guy is telling off his wife and putting her down in front of their two kids.

Behind us another guy gets up after eating, walks a few feet, tells his wife who is struggling to help the children out of their seats to hurry up, and looks ticked off instead of helping her with the kids.

I love my wife and treat her like a queen. After 16 yrs and 3 kids, I am her companion and partner, not her boss or master!

Because the women put up with it. If I was ever treated like that, I'd be out of the relationship immediately, which is how I ended up married to a man who loves and respects me - I didn't date men who treated me badly. A lot of these women choose to ignore the warning signs and the bad behavior of men they date ("I know he's mean sometimes, but I love him!!") and then they wonder how they ended up married to a guy who treats them like dirt.

Mostly because the wives and girlfriends let them do it. They are not strong enough to stand up to them. They are probably scared, fragile and rely on them. If they stand up to him he may leave them with nothing and that scares them. Thats why you can never take your partner for granted. Things happen and they may not always be there.

many reasons. they are having an affair. they dont like all the pressure from life: money, housing.etc... THEY ARE SIMPLY PIGS!!!!

Because these type of women have been beaten down emotionally and have grown to accept it. She accepted it the first time he did it and he knows that he can get away with it. She's probably just happy that he would take them to dinner as a family, not thinking about what he's said or how he treats her. It's so sad but true. My husband treats me like a queen as well. Three boys and 20 years later.

I know what you mean i see it all the time. I was in the grocery store with my husband and we saw a man yelling at his wife and she had two kids with her one was about two years old the other a newborn. He was pulling at her arm and yelling at her not to talk to the cashier. He was being so ridicules. My husband was going to step in but i told him not to because it wasn't our place. I wanted to but i didn't want my husband to get into a fight with this jerk. Maybe if cloning was possible we could clone people like you and my husband so that other women could have the same respect as your wife and me.

I don't know. In english this year we dida study on language and gender. Zimmerman and West showed that men think they are better than women. When studying mixed sex conversations men interupted women which showed they believe they have a higher status. So basically I think men think they are better. But I think it's mostly because gender stereotypes portray men as the active breadwinner/hero and women as meek little housewives who just rasie the kiddiewinks. Ever noticed that their isn't a fairytale where the princess saves the prince?

Kellie, honey, take those kids and go to a woman's shelter. Once you get out, things will work out. The first step is the hardest. Please, call your parents, old friends, anyone and get some help.

Some men feel that it is below the dignity to help carring kids or even treat their wives like queens. thats their up bringing in life - they always want to be dominant and feel like a ruller in the house - and their wives should always be a slaves

Marriage is a concept for others to know that they are called to love each other and stay together. In the arranged marriage, they first stay together and start to love. In the love marriage, they first love and stay together. So the factor of love is common for all the relation. To love means forget them self for others. In your case, you forget yourself for your wife and children, that means you love them. In return, she gives you whatever you expect from her. In others case you mentioned, it is not happening. Love is not one way track. But love is so power-full that can change other man. But nobody will have that much patience. Somebody will burst and others will divorce
