Have you tried Shaker Square? A kind of cool neighborhood on the Cleveland/Shaker Heights border, young, liberal, integrated, easy Rapid train to downtown. Other young professionals, even with kids, live there - but you do need some street smarts in that general neighborhood.
Avoid apartments in Euclid and anywhere east of there. Not for young professionals.
Tremont and otherwise downtown is definitely the place to be, lots of cool lofts and apartments close to great bars and restaurants, etc, but it is not cheap down there.
You might find something in Coventry, but parking will be a challenge. You might find something in Lakewood, lots of neat apartments on the lake, but expensive. The Cedar Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights is worth checking out. Good luck.
A lot of realtors will help you look for an apartment just to be nice, to build a relationship with you because they hope you will let them help you buy a house in a few years. You could try calling a Smythe Cramer office in the general area where you might want to look.
Good luck. This will be a challenge. (Have you considered the possiblity of renting half a duplex, say in Cleveland Heights? or you can get an even better bargain in adjacent South Euclid but Cleveland Heights is more fun.)
