Oklahoma City Thundercats?

I just heard they're officially the Oklahoma City Thundercats now. They just said on the summer league game im watching. Thoughts?

At this point I'm confused
I hear it 2, they said it 2 times, but they dont sound serious, and its hard to believe.

Also I have not seen anything about that on ESPN.com or ESPN, or NBA.com

If that is the name its weird cause it reminds me of a cartoon

I think its too high school/NBDL kinda name. I wish the creators spent more time on it than slam the weather and an animal's name together. Its like cmon. Honestly. Call it the Bears or something, but Thundercats? Can you imagine it? "And the Thundercats are the King of the World, they are your NBA Champions!" *shiver.

Im agree with all who said that "Oklahoma City Thundercats" is the worst possible name for an NBA team.

that has to be a joke. from what i have heard, a top name for the team is the OKC Barons, because of the large aeronautical industry here in the state. colors could very possibly end up being black & gold.

There's no way their going to name a professional team after a 80's cartoon show. It sounds like a name for a pee wee basketball team, not a multi-million NBA team. This can't be what their going to name the team. It's either...

A) A rumor spread by someone who's getting a kick out of this camotion
B) Clay trying to pull a fast one to distract everyone from revelling the real name.
or...
C) Clay still thinking he's dreaming that he actually got the sonics relocated to OKC and since it's only a dream, not only can he fly but he can actually use a stupid name like Thundercats. What do Thundercats have to do with Oklahoma or basketball for that matter.

I've heard bad nicknames before, but most of the time there eithe a minor league team or a high school.
Untill I hear from a source like ESPN or SI, then let's pray that this is all one bad rumor.

note: Even if they name themselves "The Thundercats", can they atleast remove the word "city". How many other professional Oklahoma teams are we going to cunfuse them with. Besides, when your team has nine syllables in it's entire name, then there's a problem.

No, it's not official, it was a joke that's taken off the way things do online, a wild and silly rumor. There has been NO official announcement of a team name or colors, it'll be a couple of weeks, probably.
And it won't be Thundercats.

This is a joke!! The announcers from the summer league in Orland Dante & Galante have been asking for suggestions. Midway through the OKC game on Monday they decided they like "The Thundercats" the best.

It's not officially that. They told people to send in names and that was the one the anouncers thought were best. So somebody said thundercats and they decided to call them that because they thought it was the best. So its not the real name.

The Oklahoma City Dunkadelics is far better than Thundercats. It sounds like a minor league or college team. The Bakerfield Jam of the NBDL is better or LA Defenders. I think they are doing a test to see how people respond. If it is the name Kevin Durant will be out of there by next week.

No chance. There has been buzz around Thunder, Thunderbirds and Barons, but not Thundercats.

As for the other names I mentioned above, one owner (Bennett) doesn't like singular names and another (Aubrey McClendon) told someone I know that Barons isn't happening.

That leaves Thunderbirds or... something entirely different. One site links to the NBA.com site (www.okcmarshalls.com) but Marshal is usually one L, though two is accepted.

seriously, it was a joke. the commentators, Dante and Gallante, the commentators for the Orlando Summer League, were taking fan emails for suggestions for the new OKC name, and they found "Thundercats" to be the most hilarious.

I doubt it will be Thundercats....too many possible legal issues in getting the naming rights for that. I've heard Barons, Bandits, Thunder, or Outlaws as all possible names, but 'Thundercats' is most likely a joke.
