Is the women's sexual revolution doing more harm than good to women?

Political theorists Harvey Mansfield was bashed by feminist when he informed his female students that the sexual revolution, instead of empowering women, lowered them to the level of men. He said that women now persue sex thoughtlessly and that women will be left high and dry as men become used to "free samples." He said that "women are playing the man's game now and they're bound to lose."

Feminist Camille Paglia said something along the same lines, but she's a woman and feminists just ignored her comments. Paglia said that men will marry younger women because they no longer need to get married for steady sex, and when they do get married (in their 30's), they will marry younger women while older, "liberated" women are left out to dry.

Why is this a game? I don't get that one. Why is everything between men and women a contest?
I don't like the lowering them to the level of men thing, either. Men aren't low for wanting sexual freedom, and women shouldn't feel low for it, either. We just need to be responsible and take care of ourselves if we make that choice.

Does it do more harm than good? You tell me, is a horrible increase in STDs good or harmful? Is an dramatic increase in cervical cancers good or harmful? Is murdering one's baby in the form of abortion and later living with the horrible regret and having to overcome one group saying that you shouldn't be sad and another trying to help you through the heavy depression due to the abortion you chose good or bad? Is an increase of depression good or bad? Is an increase in breast cancer (possibly linked to abortions and/or contraception - both conclusions scientifically studied) good or bad? Is an increase in men not being responsible (as many more were in times past) good or bad? Is being seen for only sex good or bad? Are the damaging emotional consequences that come with "free" sex good or bad? I don't know about you, but I believe that these are all bad and that as soon as women strayed from God's design of the TRUE dignity of women by women, more problems and a decrease in respect for women and their roles well, things have come to the point where they currently are CHAOS.

I think we need to give men the benefit of the doubt here and not assume that all of them are just out for a good time. Some of them actually respect and love their women. Some even want to (get ready for this) marry them. I know, strange.

And since I'm a free woman who can think for myself, I've decided that even if random and casual sex is suddenly gaining in popularity, that I won't whore around. Women and men are worth more than that and should respect their bodies. I'm a feminist and I still think that waiting until you're in a loving and committed relationship before having sex is the way to go.

I feel (if it's true about womens happiness on the decline) women are probably feeling frustrated and stepped on as they have been the servants of men for thousands of years and women can do the same as men, it's just men feel they will lose controll to "an inferiour race", maybe women will take over and instead of trying to kill everything on the planet, they will have a better clue and bring a bit of peace to the world, apart from maybe the PMT!

I think the freedom to pursue happiness is a powerful thing. If that involves sex between two consenting adults, it is not my business, and not the society business either.

I do however think, like most things in life, sex is abused by some. Sex can use as a weapon, as a currency, as a reward, and even as a reason for war.

In the end, sex is the oldest game in town, and we will forever be debating over it.

Well, no one in thir right mind pays any attention to Paglia. Not because she's a woman, but because she's a nut-job.

It's been mixed. There were a LOT of women who never had truly pleasurable sexual experiences their whole lives. That's sad.

It HAS empowered many women in many ways.

Not all women thoughtlessly persue sex. Not all who have lots of sex end up "high and dry."

No, it's not true that all men 30 or older marry girls; many prefer mature women, grown-ups. (Marriages work better when both spouses are grown-ups.)

There have always been men who marry much younger women. Pretending that never happened before is silly.

No I think Irresponsible men are doing more harm than good.

Logically, since the men have always pursued sex thoughtlessly, they have obviously been having sex with women of the same. People have always been having thoughtless sex, they're just not ashamed anymore.

What is detrimental to society is that children are produced and more often than not the male is the one who does not assume responsibility.

It depends in what context. If you abuse free sex, you will lose (in terms of acquiring an STD, feeling empty or having a bad rep).

If you are taught that only men should enjoy sex or you don't even know that you can pleasure yourself through your clit, you will lose big time too. You may never know what good sex is nor will you experience an orgasm.


The sexual revolution has helped females be comfortable with their sexuality and recognize their needs, but it doesn't have to "FORCE" women to seek sex with whoever.



Moderation is the key here.
