Best place to watch fireworks in NYC tonight?

Question

My family and I want to go to central park but is that a good place to watch them, are there any other parks that have good views?

Please answer only if you have been to the NYC fireworks before or know a lot about the city.

Hey I just found this link. I never watched the fireworks but drudge through the city all day. All these spots make a lot of sense. I think the best view would be roosevelt island or statue of liberty.

The main fireworks display in NYC is on the East River (and when I say main I mean spectacular, shouldn't be missed, probably the best in the country). It would be difficult to see the East River from Central Park with all those buildings in the way. To make the most of the experience for free (there are lots of options from $20+), I would suggest heading to one of the pedestrian outlets along FDR Drive, going over to the Hunter's Point stop on the 7, or going down to the South Street Seaport (Sonic Youth is performing here at 3 pm). The moral of the story? You've got to head to the water. :)
