Can I use powdered chlorine instead of tablets?

I recently bought a pool and a starter kit. The kit to buy is $40 it comes with algecide and chlorine tablets.

I also saw chlorine powder in a 5L bucket for $4.99... the tablets separate cost $24.99

Why such a difference? Should I stay away from the powder?

you could use either but with tablets you can just add them to an automatic chlorinator and just add more when needed but make sure you moniter the chlorine and ph levels because some tablets make the water acidic and then you need to add bicarbanates
