Why does my ps3 keep freezing?

Question

i just bought a brand new ps3 yesterday and metal gear solid 4.....but for some reason, metal gear solid 4 doesn't work...everytime i put it in, absolutely nothing happens, my ps3 just doesn't want to read it.....and the reason why i think it is the system that is messed up and not the game is because even when i try to play my ps2 games, it will read them but ALWAYS freeze up to the point where i have to shut the system off......does any one know what the hell is going on with my ps3?

um if i have to update it, then how? because like i said, i just bought it so i really know nothing about it.....thanks

Which version did you buy the 40 or 80? If you recently bought the 80gb i should think that its already updated to the latest firmware since mgs4 and the ps3 shipped at the same date.

but id its freezing, you should try to update to the latest firmware. its pretty easy i haven't tried it since i bought the bundle, but heres the site

did you put it in the right way when i first got mine i put it in backwards also update it is required for that game
