Wedding Reception?

Question

My daughter is getting married in August. Her colors are black, red and silver. It will be a formal reception and she is insisting on black table cloths. I say it's inappropriate especially since the wedding ceremony will be in the same room. Has anyone ever seen this? Thank you.

Black has been a "color" used in weddings for many years now. Black linens have also been used for a long time.

It sounds as though it matches the colorscheme so I would see no harm it in.

You could also use a combination of colors between the chair covers and napkins. Just keep the color conisistant per item...IE...all cloths one color, all napkins another, all chaircovers one.

Your daughter is following the trend nowadays of new and unusual colours for her wedding. I think this is a nice combination of colours.
Recently, I saw a black wedding dress in a Bridal shop in my city, although it looked beautiful, just be grateful she hasn't chosen a black dress or black bridesmaids dresses?

I've never seen it but I think it would be beautiful! It reads to me very elegant... I would suggest that the only thing black be the tablecloths... and mom, remember it's her wedding, and hopefully she'll only have one. I've been to a few weddings where the main theme was black, right down to a black and white dress and black roses. It was differently pretty! Good luck!

I think it will be OK, especially with weddings these day. Every bride is wanting to do something out of the ordinary to make their wedding/reception unique. If it bothers you that much you might want to suggest her doing black with red table clothes or something to that extent. In the long run shes going to insist upon doing what she likes and the best thing you should do is support her in this time of headaches and tough decision making.

black in weddings has been a big trend over the past few years. i think the black tableclothes will look gorgeous with silver and red accents. very elegant.

besides, this is her wedding,not yours. if she wants to hang cages from the ceiling and put monkeys in them, that's her choice!

she should go for white table coths. or if she insists on having it match her colors, i guess she could go with grey or silver table cloths. but i don't think black will look right.

The table cloths can be black, and the overlay can be red or silver. Remember, don't sweat the small stuff.

Why do you say it is innapropriate? Yes, crumbs do show up easily on a black tablecloth - but spills show up worse on a white one! It has been done plenty of times before and can look quite nice.

I think it looks very elegant actually and it has become popular over the last few years to use alot of black in a wedding. one option to lighten things up is to do black talbe cloths with white chair covers. some great pictures have already been posted and I think they look beautiful.
