Mine is from Gertrude Stein, as she laid on her death bed she hoped for some foreknowledge of the beyond, Over and over she asked "What is the answer, What is the answer?". The family around her were silent, And then Gertrude suddenly sat up and said "What is the question?", and fell back dead.

President McKinley was shot here in Buffalo, and died eight days later. His wife was very sickly and delicate, and his last words were of concern for her: "My wife... Be careful how you tell her -- oh, be careful!"
It has always touched me that his last thoughts were of her, not himself.
I know of one, but I can't recall the details. It was some duel and the one guy (probably really drunk) made a comment "You can't hit a thing! Go ahead! Shoot!" The other duelist complied to the demand and shot the man dead. I just wish I could recall where it happened, why and who was involved!
