Angry wife broke 7 mon. chihuahua puppy foot, help!!?

Question

well after my wife slammed our 7 month puppy to the ground (she is not even 3 lbs! wtf) during a small fight, her foot is now broken. We took her to the emergency vet and the vet said it was a metacarpal fracture and Orthopaedics surgery is not required.
However, I'd like a second opinion and I don't care how much it is going to cost if it's to get her fully healthy and functional (I may get a divorce soon so this puppy will be all I got).
Any one with experience with kind of injury before?
Or someone can give me a list of orthopaedic clinics for pets around Southern California/Orange County so I can visit them and get a second opinion?

I tell ya I would be out of the door with that sweet dog asap. If you have kids I would get them out too. This woman is dangerous!

I have not been through this sort of break with my Chi's thankfully. Have you consulted your regular vet on this too? If you really want to see a specialist I'm sure he can also give you the number of one. I am adding a link where you can find more info on this type of injury.

Good luck to you and your Chi. Please make sure to keep yourself and your Chi safe from this mad woman. I'm just gald you were there when this happened or it could have been so much worse.

Wow! I think divorce is a must! If not, your or heaven forbid kids may be the next target of this angry wife!

As for the injury- the metacarpals are the bones around the middle part of the foot. It will generally not require surgery, but your poor baby will have to be kept quiet for 6 weeks to heal, just with any human broken bone.

I don't know about the vet, but I advise you to keep your puppy as far away as possible from your wife but still with you. When or if a puppy gets hurt at a young age the puppy develops a trauma, spend as much time as possible with your puppy to make sure it does not go through a trauma in later life.

You really should report your wife to the humane society for animal cruelty....but you probably won't. I understand.

I'm praying you don't have children....and likewise wondering WTF are you doing with someone with a penchance for violence?

docs advice sounds right - from my own experience and then learning about statistics on this kind of behavior, you need to get away from this woman... it "starts" with the dog and ends with the human.... now you may not be worried tthat she can hurt you, but when she starts beating or throwing or doing whatever physical damage to you are you going to stand there and do nothing? all you have to do is push her away and you being the guy will be in jail within the hour regardless of what she did to you.... dump the freak, keep the dog

Divorce sounds like she needs anger management.
I starred this for you. I know chi owners and they will answer this better for you.
Though in my opinion, I would try to see another vet just for the second opinion.
It does sound like you are on top of things though.

dump the "female dog in heat". violence is bad enough when its toward something that can take it but its disgusting when its toward the poster puppy of small and feeble dogs. i would say she has some serious issues. " im so sorry hunny" doesnt help the puppy.

Oh, wow! If my hubby ever did that, that would be what went on the divorce papers.

I dunno which vets are in that area...sorry....but you could always try opening a phone book. In the meantime, I'd report your wife for cruelty to animals. This woman sounds like she needs serious help.

you have an evil wife. You splint the dogs leg dont try to move it the best you can for this will cause further damage. Then pick it up very gently and take it to another vet. And make your wife pay for the medical bill sence she is the one who caused it.

if you keep your puppy quiet well as quiet as you can she will be fine they heal very fast you'll be suprised. good luck and def get shot of the wife you are an animal lover and she aint.

Hi, I'm sure you already get the idea what should be done with your wife lol, so I won't go there. Even though I can think of plenty to say! As for the orthopedic specialists, any vet should be able to give you that info. Call the clinic where your pup was seen and ask the receptionist. They should have a list. Being that you live in a heavily populated area there should also be tons of listings in the phone book and I would imagine if they have a specialty it'll be listed. Although, I have found emergency vets to be quite knowlegable and I would be inclined to believe him if he says no surgery is needed. Just try to keep the pup from being too active, no jumping off of furnature etc until it heals. Good luck and best wishes....

The foot bones (metatarsals or metacarpals) of even a Great Dane can't be repaired. There is absolutely no way any vet can surgically repair the injury, it will heal by itself....just like when humans break toes.

My GSD broke a toe when he was about 1, and other than a little calcification on that bone you can't tell at all. Now, even after 9 years, it doesn't bother him one bit.

Forget your wife...you know what to do about that situation, and I trust you will....as far as your dog goes, she'll be just fine. Just keep her off the foot so it doesn't get swollen.

This should be under relationship help, lol! A young dog has a great chance of recovery and if he doesn't need a specialist that good. I never heard of a Vet not wanted you to spend more money so trust him. My dog was hit by a car ( at 6mth), lost one front leg and paralyzed his one back leg, the Vet put pins in it cuz it was broke so it is straight but it is paralyzed. It's best described as a two legged dog with a kick stand. His owner refused to pay his vet bill, so I did, and adopted him. That's why there are leash laws! I would press charges on her for animal cruelty!
