Has anyone been taking the drug Talwin? I have been prescribed to it for 5 years and now it has been recalled

I just called my pharmacy to see if my presciption for Talwin had been refilled yet and was told it was recalled. I have been taking it for 5 years for pain management and it has worked great for me. I follow the dosage as directed and have never abused the drug. I called my doctor and he didn't even know it had been recalled yet. Does anyone else take this medication and with this recall, what are we supposed to do? I don't know if I will have any side effects or withdrawal and I am scared I may. This drug has really helped me. I just don't understand how they can totally stop selling this medicine when so many people are depending on the prescription and have not even been warned nor had a clue that this drug was going to be pulled off the shelves. I haven't even had a chance to wean off the drug, if thats what it will take, I'm forced to cold turkey my medication. Don't the forces that be even think of what this will do to the people that use this medicine? What do you do?

I've taken it before but it's been several years. Your fears are normal. Anybody that has been on a med like talwin for 5 years will need the help of a doctor to safely get off it.

You need to tell your doctor much of the same thing you wrote hear. No you should go 'cold turkey' off Talwin.

I too take the drug for R.A. and was down to my last one before i called in a refill; (my bad waiting so long) and was really shocked to hear the recall. i asked why the recall and the pharmacist had no idea.
my doc is now trying to figure out what to prescribe me, as i am allergic to so many meds. i am really erked, it was the one med that really worked w/out side affects. i can let you know what my doc recommends when i find out i guess.
in the meantime i am totally out of meds ouch!
