Ripping Out Asphalt Roofing and Original Wood Shingles...What to do??

Ok i removed a piece of wood shingles that were underneath the asphalt and they are gapped. Do i have to rip out the wood underneath, Because it has a big Gap between them or can i put like plywood sheets on top ? What type of plywood and size and whatnot would i use to sheet it how would i do this????

i say call a roofing guy or get help @ Home Depot
or look it up online @ least

    any kind of plywood will work, the thicker the better, a min of 3/8in, just take all the wood shingles off and if all the 2 by 4 or 6's are good not rotten, start putting the plywood down

    No you don't need to rip off the old plank sheathing. Go over the top of it with 7/16 OSB .
    You will need to rip off all the old shingles and shakes. Start off by the eve and make sure you get the spacing of the sheet set on center of the rafters and work out from there. On the next course of sheathing off set the sheathing spacing by 4 ft ( so the seams of the sheets do not line up from the 1st course. Keep repeating this until you get to the peak. You will most likely have to rip the last course of sheathing when you reach the peak. You will also have to account for any openings in the roof (venting, pipes, and ridge vents)

    They commonly used planks with gaps for wood shingles. You will need to cover it with sheathing for asphalt shingles. OSB 7/16th is the cheapest thing to use that meets building codes.
