punxsutawney phil is the most famous groundhog, he is known for groundhog day when they checked for his shadow. Gus isnt really the second most famous groundhog but the lottery is marketing his that way.

Punxsutawney Phil is the most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania, anyway. He lives in the town of Punxsutawney, PA, about 25 miles from where I live in SW PA.

Phil only gets one day a year, and most Pennsylvanians can't even spell "Punxsutawney" nor find it on a map (it's in Jefferson County). Gus is around at the beginning of every month.
