I have a squirrel chewing the edge of one of my wooden porch steps.Why,and how can I deter it from chewing?

This squirrel actually came on the porch while I was sitting in a chair. It walked behind my chair,and I noticed it out of the corner of my eye and chased it off.

Get some bitter spray from your local pet shop and spray it round your porch.......that will put it off chewing

Is there any chance you have used salt (perhaps to melt ice) on your steps. Squirrels crave salt and have problems finding a source. I have squirrels nibbling at my brick steps for this same reason.

If you suspect it is salt wash the steps with strong saopy solution and rinse well. The squirrel will no longer be attracted.

Sprinkle some chili powder around where he's chewing, that 'll stop him.

Just like when you are trying to feed the birds and the squirrels try to eat it all...Pepper! Every day common black pepper, red pepper,jalapenos! Anything that will change the taste of it
