Why does the US like to isolate themselves?

After WW1 America had a policy of isolation in which they didn't get involved in any of the worlds matters. However, after WW2 with communism spreading they said they would leave this policy and begin getting involved in world matters to stop communism although they didnt say this at the time in public.

So that change of policy gave us the America we have today: it gets involved in all the worlds matters (whether that's a good thing is another subject) but it seems to me America is still today socially following a policy of isolation because many Americans only know and like to know is about America and not alot else matters; you can see it aswell in the way Americans dont like football (soccer) or formula 1 (i know some do but the majority dont).

And i feel that's why there's alot of Anti americanism because politically your politicians like to get involved in all the worlds matters but then when it comes to alot of social events you dont bother and it looks like you dont care.

America broke from all European ties after the war of independence, and I think being under British rule when they didn't want to for so long made them glad to be their own independent and seperate Country.

And a lot of problems in Europe SHOULD have made the Americans intervene, but you have to remember they are an entire ocean away and such a large Country will have problems of its own, and nations always look out for themselves first and foremost.

I tink geography is a big part of why America is isolated from a lot of Europe. It's quite far away, and such a big region with a huge variety of things to do.

I'm not really sure what this question is or how to answer it. We don't like the world's 'social' events? Is that what you're saying? Formula 1 cars-racing? I love it! More than NASCAR, actually. Soccer? Please. Why would we care about that when we have awesome American football? Why doesn't anyone like 'our' sport of choice? Hmmm? Live and let live, man.

There are so many problems in the world and being that we are the worlds only superpower we do what we can to help like sending aid or freeing people from opression but you know what we get in return... people hateing us.

Think about it, say you were a good person that helped yourself (stayed in shape, got an education) and tried to help out in your community but when you tried to help people got mad at you.

People hate america because there told to (propaganda), because their jealous, because we tried to help or for some other reason but the main point is they don;t like us.

Now if someone doesnt like you, do you assoiciate with them? Not really. So we focus on ourselves because people don't like us.

Now as for sports i think people don;t like formula 1 because they dont start at the same time and the cars are too spaced out.

As for soccer, we americans like contact sports like football, soccer just doesnt have the hitting we need

It is the land of the free. I am free to ignore the rest of the world, particularly when all they want is for the American taxpayer to help fund their own wants. Why should we help everyone and get no help or respect in return? You are right, I don't care. I only care about taking care of my family and let you take care of your family.

This is not intended as an insult but you are ignorant of the facts. It is not the U.S that isolates itself. It invovles itself in world matters first! When earthquakes, sunami or other disasters happen, they are the first to go and to give in relief. That does not sound like isolationism. As a Canadian, I can tell you that Canada does not like soccer either. Does that make them isolationists?
I think you should first look to nations like China, Myanmar and dozens of other countries first!
It is funny how some people will scold Americans for getting involved with world matters but beg for help when disaster happens! Please, sincerly, reconsider such thinking. It borders on hatred. I am not American but think that the U.S has been treated very unfairly by others for many varied reasons. I lived there for 12 years and have lived in other countries and can truly say, they are not deserving of the treatment they get! :)

We as a whole seem to be preoccupied with our own set of what we consider problems. The notion of others having problems appears to be remote because we are too into ourselves! I think we have forgotten where previous generations came from and have no idea what the problems our forefathers solved and sacrificed for to give us what we now have!

I understand what you are saying, but your media and that of most of the world only gives you part of the story. Fact of the matter is, the U.S. is the greatest contributor of humanitarian aid in the world. The media which is mostly left of center, only chooses to print / televise political matter which hurts the U.S. because bad news sells. Sad to say we are become isolationist because we resent all the aid we give to other countries when in the end we wind up with spit on our face. Americans are getting tired of it.

Then quit begging us to get your stupid little countries out of trouble and take care of your own. Still mad that we kicked your royal butts out in 1776? If we would not have entered WW2 there would be no UK so get over yourselves. My Father was wounded defending Europe. You have a lot of nerve to post this on Memorial Day weekend when we remember our soldiers that died defending others and our freedoms.

Wrong. Football is America's pastime, and so is baseball, soccer and car races. Policy of isolation, that is a good joke, America is every where.

It is possible that America thinks that they are the standard for enjoying life. And in some ways, this is true. Today, America produces a lot of successful things. The things that they create are widely popular and maybe that is why they think that anything they don't have a part in innovating or starting is not good enough for them, and would like to create their own. This is like the Saturn V rocket, an American invention built to blow away the Soviet Union's space program.

Nothing too accurate or too original in your way of thinking. The United States really could use another Isolationist era - preferably until the United States become something else!
