Is it legal for a ten year old girl to read erotic literature for money (via phone, Internet, Cd's)?

This is hypothetical: Would it be legal for a 10 year old girl to make vocal readings of erotic literature: Nabokov's Lolita, or Anais Nin' Short Stories, or Paul Ruditis' Rainbow Party. The literature is available, she would just read the text in her voice and sell it to whomever desired it. This would be commerce, but would she or the purchaser violate and legal restriction?

Additional Details

Why do people think in this day and age that an responsible adult (parent, guarandian) has to put a
tween up to anything? Erotic imagines are all about in our society --- look at TV, magazines, music. Look at the Dairy Queen commercial, where a ten - eleven year old cons a boy out of a sundae. When children are dress themselves as vamps and tarts --- it would not take a girl long to think that she could get away with this.

Look at how many girls, just using the Internet, get themselves picked up by sicko or by police agents pretending to be police agents.

There have been several reported cases where 10 - 13 years had set up group sex encounters in one another's homes --- the parents were shocked and outraged that these kids would do this. The parents did not teach them this behavior nor did the parent put them up to it.

No. Since this would never be the child's own idea, it would be an adult taking advantage of a child for financial gain & sexual stimulation. It would constitute both emotional & sexual abuse of a child.

This doesn't sound like it would be legal.

By having a 10 year old girl read erotic literature, especially for sale, would be pandering to the likes of Pedophiles and other sexual deviants.

In all honesty, what human being, in their sane mind, would purchase a recording of erotica read out by a 10 year old girl? Not a normal one, I can tell you that.

Something like this has a creep factor x infinity.

Good lord. The questions I see here.

Well, I was amazed at the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" where the actress Abigail Breslin gave an erotic dance set to Rick James music. Nobody got arrested for that movie, so I would guess it would be legal. I ain't a lawyer though. Don't quote me.

This raises two points: there are very few grade four girls who would be able to read that literature easily enough to make vocal readings.
Secondly, since the literature is available, why would anyone want it?
There's nothing inherently illegal about it - IF the material is readily available, but if it is pornography, as opposed to erotic material, then it would be illegal.

Not in any civilized country - and some of those have laws protecting minors from sex tourism. A reprehensible thought! A 10-year-old girl should play with dolls and do kid stuff generally. Sex and the art of titillation is for CONSENTING ADULTS.

Karen, I agree with the social worker that it would be a case of an adult taking advantage of a child for financial gain. Obviously, it would not be a good situation for the child.
If the girl came up with the idea herself, then the parents or other responsible people need to intervene to stop this, whether or not it is technically legal. That needs to be done before the girl gets herself into deeper trouble.

Okay, I get your point about some kids not being so innocent. Such a kid would certainly be a nightmare for her parents, who would wonder what she is up to next. Usually rebellion happens when the child enters the teenage years, but perhaps it is occurring earlier now. But the parents still have responsibility in this situation.

I do find this hypothetical problem of Karen's interesting and a telling commentary on the overly sexual education that very young children are receiving.

I agree with "Old Lady" that few 4th graders could or would do this, but their are the "Dakota Fanning (Man on Fire)" or a very young Christine Ricci (Adams Family) could do these readings, IF they choose to do so.

I doubt that anyone can find the novel Lolita pornographic. I would wonder how a young girl would understand it. I as an old male found Rainbow Party vulgar and pointless --- why would girls to that? But perhaps that is another question?

To Karen: I think that this would be perfectly legal. I am not certain how the child could make or market these readings without adult capital involved. That capital may poise legal issues.
