Where is a good place for experienced riders to rent horses in Lexington, KY?

I have been riding my whole life, but my horse passed away two summers ago and I don't have the money or the land to purchase a new one. I unfortunately don't have friends or family with horses, so I have not ridden in two years. I'm sure that other "horse people" can understand my desire to get back in the saddle. Is there somewhere near Lexington where I can ride? I'm hoping to do more than a follow-the-leader trail ride, but I don't have a whole lot of money to spend. Right now I'm thinking that maybe there's someplace that has an arena or trails and would allow me to rent a horse by the hour or day and just ride (after I have proven that I am capable). Suggestions? I'm getting desperate.

What I would do is log onto one of the free classified sites like Craig's List and put up an ad. You could say something like "will trade stall cleaning for riding privliges" or just simply ask if anyone has a horse that needs a bit of exercise. You are in horse country so I would think should get some good offers. I did this and had several offers, but most of them were out of my area (several hours away) and I wasn't able to accept their offers. But I know that my ad worked because I did get hits on it and offers of horses to ride. I put mine under "barter/trade" I think. Try it, I'm sure you'll get more offers to ride than you can handle.

I even had one lady offer to lease her horse to me just for the cost of her care. I would have loved it, but since I don't have my own place I'd have to board her and with vet bills, feed, gas money, plus my regular bills I just couldn't afford it right now.

Good luck finding a "ride" in your area!!! :-)

    Hi,

I completely understand your despiration to ride. I am in a similar situation, however I've just found a place I can ride.

I live in Northern Kentucky, in Taylor Mill if you've heard of that. About 30 minutes south of Cinci. You have the advantage of living in Lexington. A good way to get in with "horse people" is to go to places where they go, and since you're right there, why not go to the racetrack? Another option is the horse park. Both are wonderful and fun places to visit, and if you strike up conversation with the right people, you may just find yourself riding again very soon. :]

I wish I lived as close to the horse park as you, I'd be there every day. o.-

Another thing you can do is to take some back roads where you know little stables are hidden. Pull up into the driveways of stables [be careful not to cross private property lines] and get out and look at the horses for a while. If the owner comes out, you've got an opportunity to talk horses.

Well good luck, hope I helped!

What a small world! I live in Northern Ky, too! I live off the Crittenden exit, about 20 minutes from florence. LOL.
That is so cool! Sorry, I don't know much about Lexington stables. I would suggest putting up an advertisement.
