What's the best way to deal with well water with high iron content?

I currently have a Culligan Iron Cleer unit, and it has been effective in removing iron, but also is very noisy and becomes clogged with the 'mud' that comes out of our well.

Any experiences that anyone can share with different models of iron filter would be appreciated. Especially if you have >5ppm of iron in your well water.

Ok I have had this problem and it could be 1 of 2 things. 1 you foot valve could need replacing, and 2 your water level sounds like it is getting dangerously low because you should not have any mud content if both 1& 2 are fine. If you well is less than 200 ft. your water level could be low. and when we have alot I mean alot of rain my water is alittle muddy for a few days but clears up. Check on your foot valve 1st. And if you live in an area that has been drought striken like I have then worry about your water level

as far as iron filters we change about 1 a month and you already have the best unit. Is the unit on your faucet or well. You may need one on your well if you don't already
