Why didnt they use Bob Dylan's real name in I'm not there?

I get the movie, so no need to explain, I just think it would have been easier to just call him Bob Dylan. I mean
Jude Quinn
Arthur Rimbaud
Jack Rollins
Billy the Kid
Woody Guthrie
Robbie Clark

are the names they use instead. Did these names have significance? Or were they just random and the director decided to make up names to show how incredibly confusing the real Bob Dylan was?

You forgot Robert Zimmerman ;)

Yes these names had significance as the different personalities of Bob. For example, early in his career, he tried to imitate Woody Guthrie and that was an extended part of his personality.

The real Bob Dylan was hard to capture, which is why he used to many Bob Dylans.

However, I agree with you. It is confusing. I don't think that it worked that well. I liked the Cate Blanchett Bob Dylan the best.
