How can I fix a bad red dye job?

Question

Two days ago I colored my normally light brown hair red. Unfortunately it came out very very dark red and it looks fake. Almost purplish in spots. The box color was a dark auburn. I've dyed it medium auburn before with success. If I buy a medium auburn and dye it that will it help? Is it too soon to re-dye it? Also, I've already conditioned my hair today and they say not to do that before dying it, but I would like to fix it before tomorrow. Any suggestions?

I have done the same thing before, I tried everything and finally had to go to a professional to have it fixed. I would suggest the same for you, red is a tricky color like black.

Dying over a dark color with a light color. I have tried. The spots that are lighter will dye, but the dark red spots will not. With mistakes like this, I would go to a salon. Little "uh-ohs" like that they can fix easily. ( and pretty cheap)

I'd avoid any more permanent colour.

Personally, I think this is one for a salon to fix, it's probably gone beyond a DIY job.

if you go over it with lighter colour then nothing will happen. Was it permanent dye? You can buy a stripper and apply your other colour over it the same day, but think hard!
Is your hair in a good condition? Also, do not forget it may be better to wait because red generally fades very quickly, even permanent colours, wash your hair daily and in a week the colour would be much much lighter. It may not be worth to ruin your hair for the sake of few days.

Red's fade fast so wash it a couple of timesThen use a deep conditioner. After that try a light auburn to even it out.

you might have to bleach it and start over. If you go to a professional saloon they will strip your hair, its a long process though. If you want a very simple solution than just dye it a darker color than it is right now.
