What are some good cookbooks?

Question

I'm getting married at the end of this month and I want to purchase some good cookbooks. Nothing too difficult! I will be in law school in the fall so I would like things that are not too time consuming & maybe some that I could cook when we have guests over. What are some good ones?

I have several volumes of the Taste of Home collection. There are many great, easy recipes, as well as lots that are fancy enough for company. Other great ones include the Company's Coming series.

Unless you won't have internet access, there's really no need to buy cookbooks with foodnetwork.com and epicurious.com out there. You can get all the recipes you want free. Food Network has the benefit of ratings to show how difficult or easy the recipe is and user feedback where people post what worked for them, what didn't, what variations they tried etc.

On both sites you can so a search on one or more ingredients if you're looking for a recipe that will utilize what you have on hand.

If you'd rather have a cook book I just got Lidia's Italy which is full of simple, good recipes from all over Italy. It's on sale on her website for 14.99.

I also added The Barefoot Contessa to my collection by Ina Garten. Her recipes are all simple and beautiful.

A good cookbook everyone should have is the Fanny Farber cookbook. It has everything from basic cooking to harder dishes.

Definetly the "Calling All Cooks" series. They have great recipes and they are pretty easy. I am from the south and my family recipes most closely resemble the recipes in these books. You can make your new hubby proud when you whip up one of these tasty recipes. Good Luck.

Julia Child is a must have. Her books give menues, recipes, great directions as to how to do varied dishes. You cannot go wrong with her. Another? Any of Jaques Pepin's books are easy, great, Nigella Lawson is another great one, of course Joy of Cooking, a basic. Ada Boni is great for real, authentic Italian food. These should be your basics. Anything else, you have for fun.
