Could i replace all downstairs inerior walls with floor to ceiling tropical fishtanks - would that be possible
In theory and money allowing.
On my dream house i would have all downstairs interior walls be tropical salt water fish tanks. I would also have tunnel fish tanks in the floor, like at the aquarium. So that the rooms could be made private, i would have the fish tanks made of that glass which frosts over when you hit the switch.
Could that be done?
What would your extravagance be if money were no object?

You could theoretically do it for most interior walls, but it wouldn't work for the ones which are "load bearing." Load bearing walls need to absorb the weight of the roof and trusses. How would you deal with filtration and oxygenation of the aquarium(s?) Most walls in a home are either 4 1/2 inches or 6 1/2 inches, it would be pretty tight, hydrodynamically.

yes, that would be possible, but extremely expensive.... it would be amazing, though.

I wouldn't want to do the water changes, that's for sure!
But it sounds awesome.

Some internal walls are lode bearing and you would first need to have RSJ's put in to bear the weight of the floor above. I really like the glass that goes opaque at the flick of a switch. My indulgences would be a home cinema, bowling alley and swimming pool. If only.

All of the above are correct, but you couldn't have the opaque changing glass, it runs an electric current through the glass to make it transparent, its when you turn it off that it goes opaque.
Fish tanks and electrical currents don't mix!!!!

Sure it could.
The tank would have to provide structural strength where needed, and the glass would provide support, I suppose.
They have glass that frosts over for privacy such as in bathrooms, so it appears money is your only restriction.
You do realize that the manitenance cost to keep these in good order would be a large budget item as well don't you?
Good luck, and I'll be watching Better Homes & Gardens for your dream home.
g-day!

The room would be damp and that's a lot of work for someone to maintain.
If money were no object, we'd buy a house in Maui near the Lavender Gardens.
