It depends on the rank
Miles (nominative) - militis (genitive) if It's private
if it's novice tiro- tironis
if it's veteran veteranus-veterani

infantryman: pedes-pedetis
on horses: eques-equetis
decorated -with medals- : emeritus-emeriti

:P hope it helps ^^

just to say soldier use the nominative -first word-
I wud write just the first e.g pedes
but it's a Latin thing I cant help :D
