Does anyone know how to remove oxidation from exterior lighting fixtures?

I installed all new low voltage exterior landscape lighting three years ago. The fixtures now have fairly noticable oxidation. I believe that they are powder coated cast aluminum. I have 20 path lights, a large five lamp pole fixture, and several floods that all have the same problem.

I invested a fairly substansial amount of time and money in this lighting and I would like to find some way to remove the oxidation without having to replace all of the lights.

You can use car polish to remove the oxidation and restore the original color but to be honest, that is what Al does. If you clean it all up, in 3 years it will oxidize again. It's the exposure to ultraviolet radiation that is the culprit.

Once oxidation is visible there really are only two choice. One is to replace the fixtures. Check with whom you purchased them thru and see if their vendor will do anything about them. some vendors offer a no questions asked policy about damage or in your case, a poor finish. If they don't the only other option would be some elbow grease. Sand, prime and re-coat.

if you rally want to go threw the trouble use a Dremel. using either the sander or for curves the brush you can get light oxidation out. Paint it as soon as you can and it should look better and the paint will hold longer
