Muslims, How do we know Muhammad was the last prophet?

Additional Details

Ninty..I believe that's the correct answer.
lol

Brain do you have trouble comprehending my questions?

Ninety, I believe for a man to be anounced by God as the last prohet the final word from God it would have to be by more than the book he brings you.

Did God anounce that Muhammad was the final word from God anywhere but the Qu'ran that was handed to you by Muhammad?

Fellas, If the anouncement is only in the Qu'ran..obviously Muhammad is bearing record of himself. How do we know you are the last prophet?
Because my book says so.

If I hand you a book that says I am the last prophet, am I then the last prophet?

How do you KNOW Muhammad is the last prophet?
If the answer is only because we believe him and his book, he bears record of himself...Muhamamd is the last prophet because the qu'ran says so...the Quran is the word of God because Muhammad says so... see where this goes?

Now If another hands you a book you believe him because his book says so?

Oh come on Muslims I was joking....Muhamad was the last prophet because Muhammad said so?

Kim I'm sure we both thought you were joking...apparently thats all he needed.

Beautiful Islam Jesus is very much alive in heaven. My Bible says he is...You should actually read the true word of God.

Jesus was foretold by Abraham, Moses, David and Isaiah and more...The Bible foretold of Jesus as the Christ and as the Savior and as the Son of God, thousands of years before his actual birth. Jesus did not come bearing record of himself he was anounced by God and the prophets of God.

Sure Islam, It's the gospel my friend. He resurrected.

Mat.17: 22 And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men:
23 And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

read the gospel it is about the aotnment that Jesus bring that is the good news ...the Qu'ran refers to the gospel as the good news without knowing the good news is that we can be rejoined to God through the atonement of Christ.

Islam The Bible is the word of God that was available to Muhammad who followed a spirit that disagreed with God.

As far as your firnds question he does not understand the atonement. Christ paid the penalty of sin which is death with his flesh...death could not hild a righteous man. Christ overcame temptation sin and death as a man for man, It was flesh that sinned and inherited death. Christ paid that penalty with his flesh and overcame sin for us.

Islam I am not speaking bad of any man I am telling you the truth according to God.

Don't hate me...There is so much wrong with your answer I don't know where to start....First Allah calism to be the God of Abraham author of the Torah and the Gospel...Now if that be true...Then a prophet is anounced he cant bear witnes of himself.. If a prophet is simply proved by our intellect than any man can claim he is a prophet even your Qu'ran is not safe from such claims its every man for himself...Prophets are proved or they are not prophets...Now If I hand you a book saying I am The last prophet...well thats good enough?
The problem with the golden calf is you believe it is God so no one will make a better golden calf than yours because you believe yours is God.

Yassen Doesn't it bother you that Christians are Christians according to your Qu'ran because Allah deceived them? For 600 year people were born and died generations of people believeing in the atonement of Jesus foretold by the prophets of God for thousands of years, all because Allah chose to deceive them? That is you religion? Who is the deceiver? Why would the God of Abraham turn against his people and deceive them leaving generations to die with no true word of God?

This is the God that you worship?

Don't Hate Me The Qu'ran says the Bible is the word of God...Allah claims to be the God of Abraham who authored the Torah and Gospel If you do not belive these books your Allah can not be true.
I KNOW GOD ... I can't prove God by Science.

a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws: the mathematical sciences.
2. systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.
God is an eternal spirit. You can not know him by science and his truth is not revealed to sinful flesh,
We do not know God by our knowledge but by his revelation.
We are mortal finite flesh and we do not comprehend the infinite but by the revelation of God.
I KNOW God by revelation of the Holy Spirit.

esra, The Torah is part of the Christian Bible. The Torah was spoken directly to Moses. This book your Allah claims is his words, If this is true then your Allah forgot his righteous ways, I know God by his revelation through his word which is revealed as truth by the Holy Spirit.
Jesus as all of the prophets of God are in agreement. Jesus is foretold by Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah and all fo the prophets of God, Abraham said the lord would provide a lamb,
Moses taught the mannah from heaven and the tree of life, David said The lord said to my lord set on my right side till I make your enemies your footstool.
Isiah said that a virgin would give birth to a child and he would be called God with us. He would be a saviour for his people and would atone for sin...these prophesies foretold of Jesus and who he was and what he would do.
The God of Abraham who Allah claims to be

warned Adam how disobedience equaled death. This God also warned man how to know a prophet was from God and how to test a spirit with the word of God how all prophets would have to agree and be in agreement with his word, Now Muhamad does not agree wiht the word of God, Did Allah forget his intructions to Moses? Did Allah forget he is a righteous God who does not weigh sin?

esra even though you are a nice person and do not realize Islam the religion insults the God of Christianity..the Isa of Islam is by no means the Jesus of the Bible..nor Allah the God nor Moses the Moses..I realize this makes no sense to you but pray you will read the words of the prophets of God.

Minte while I appreciate your sentiments
The word of God available to Muhammad says he is antichrist.
Muhammad in 10:94 was commanded if he had doubts about this revelation to seek thsoe whoread previous scripture..It is easy to know what these scriptures teach, pick up a abible it is the same Jesus that Muhamamd could have read about the Holy Son of God who atoned for sin, There is not one shred of scripture from before Muhammad that agrees with Allah nor mentions himin any way..If Allah existed before Muhamamd and was not invented by Muhmmad why would the Bible not agree wiht him in any way? Why would The Bible call your religion antichrist and your prophet a false prophet? The Bible is clear that those who do not agree Jesus is the Son of God is the spirit of antichrist. I mean no offese but only to tell you what the Bible says and it said it at the time of Muhmamd and long before Muhamad was ever born.

faith when God spoke of the coming of Christ he did not refer to Muhammad who Moses clearly explainsis a flase prophet read these words of Moses....
Deut.13: 1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

A prophet of God must be in agreement with the words of the prophets and the known word of God.

You can also see the Bible from the time of Muhamad refered to thsoe who disagreed with Jesus as the Son of God as antichrist..Now how do youbsupose the Bible which refers to him as antichrist fortells of his coming?
and why did Allah instruct Muhamad to seek those who read these scriptures if he ahd doubts about his revelation?
The Bible never agreed with Muhammad or his Allah..How can it anounce such a prophet that it refers to as a flase prophet?

Blue soul If Muhamamd is before the Qu'ran then he woud have to be a prophet according to the word of God of his time not the book he gave you.
Here is what The Bible said at the time of Muhamamd how to test a spirit and how to test a prophet.

Deut.13: 1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

A prophet of God must be in agreement with the words of the prophets and the known word of God.

1John 2: 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

Anyone who claims to be a prophet of God must agree Jesus is the Christ the Son of God who is our savior.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist

Gal. 1: 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

If an angel or a man preach a different gospel he is not of God.

Sorry this is long but these are only part of the many warnings God gave his people concerning false prophets who did not agree with his word and his prophets.

Red Dragon please read the verses hat prove a prophet of God. He could nt have been proved by the Bible nor could he have been proved by writing his own word of God..God was way ahead of him.

Let me explain suppose I wrote a book I said it is the New Qu'ran everything in this book disagrees with the Qu'ran but I say I worship YOUR Allah and he says your book is corrupt and there will be a final prophet but Muhammad wasnt it..Now I claim that Muhamamd is a prophet but I tell you Muhamamd said to worship many God's and those early Muslims corrupted your book... I could use suras form Your Quran
showing you that Muhamad was suposed to be in agreement with the Bible and he wasnt so this proves the Qu'ran is corrupt...This my friend is exactly what Muhammad did to the BIBLE.

All Muhmmad had to do was hand you a book that said he was a prophet..and it didnt even matter that his book disagreed with the God he said he worshiped.

massi I don't know of anyone with a written word from God after the New Testement.

Because the Quran says so.

How should you believe anything that the Quran says?

Because it's God's word.

How do we know it's Gods word?

because the Quran says so.

BEAUTIFUL ISLAM,

I've seen the so called miracles and predictions and I know that all of them are either previously discovered findings, or delusional non-sense interpretations twisted to sound like miracles.

Are YOU blind? Have you not seen the bullcrap in the Quran?

Because God told us the the Glorious Qu'ran, and he also told us that there was going to be alot of false prophets too. By the way, is Jesus (may peace be upon him) really dead? Just because it said in your Bible that God gave up his only son for our sins, doesn't mean its true, now does it, he could be alive and in Heaven with Allah (SWT).

EDIT: You may believe he is alive put what about those
millions of people who think that he is dead.

Can you please show me where he says that he is alive.

Ok brother lets stop arguing, you and me both know that we were made from God and we are his creations. But why are you talking about Muhammad (pbuh) like that, we didn't do anything to you, so please stop. BTW I love all the prophets the same. Thank you may Allah(swt) or God bless you.

Ok if it is the truth why does the bible does it have so many mistakes and why doesn't it have predictions like in the quran.

@Blue exull: Are you blind, do you not see the miracles in the quran not happened what about the predicitons? Huh?

are you talking to yaseen or me, brother

Yes we can easily say its because it says so in the Quran. We only believe what the Quran says not because some man said its the truth but we have come to that conclusion by rationally proving the Quran to be the word of God.

there is a challenge in the Quran to those who disbelieve to produce a chapter like it or a verse like it but no1 managed to for 14000 years. so unless you can meet that challenge it remains to be the truth.

    http://www.theinimitablequran.com

EDIT:@Blue you really hate me :( (wipes away tears) lol

EDIT: just saw your reply now. I dont think you read my answer properly. How can you expect someone to be telling you that they bring you a book from God without being able to produce proof that it really is from God otherwise you would be taking their word for it and im not gonna dedicate my life to something jus coz someone told me so but without a proof. this proof should be rational not emotional as emotions can change and although scientific proofs do exist in the quran, science is not very reliable because that changes constantly too im sure you know that so I go for something that cannot be refuted and thats rational proof. note that i said rational not logical.
ps- i have to add these are some rich arguments coming from a Christian who believes in book written by just about everyone but God. whats your basis for believing in it? you just like the sound of it?

    Thats our faith.
أشهد أن لا إله إلاَّ الله و أشهد أن محمد رسول الله
(I testify that there is no God but Allah, And Muhammad is his last and Final messenger

The Quran claims that Muhammad is the seal or the last of the prophets:

Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the Messenger of God and the last (end) of the Prophets. And God is Ever All-Aware of everything. S. 33:40 Hilali-Khan

This has been widely understood to mean that there will be no more prophets after Muhammad. Regarding the above text, a commentary attributed to Muhammad’s first cousin and renowned Muslim scholar Ibn Abbas says:

(Muhammad is not the father of any man among you) i.e. Zayd, (but he is the messenger of Allah) but Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (and the Seal of the Prophets) with him Allah has sealed the advent of prophets, such that there is no prophet after him; (and Allah is Aware of all things) of your words and works. (Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs; source)

The hadith reports have Muhammad claiming to be the final prophet:

    Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "The Israelis used to be ruled and guided by prophets: Whenever a prophet died, another would take over his place. There will be no prophet after me, but there will be Caliphs who will increase in number." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What do you order us (to do)?" He said, "Obey the one who will be given the pledge of allegiance first. Fulfil their (i.e. the Caliphs) rights, for Allah will ask them about (any shortcoming) in ruling those Allah has put under their guardianship." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 661)

    Narrated Jubair bin Mutim:
Allah's Apostle said, "I have five names: I am Muhammad and Ahmad; I am Al-Mahi through whom Allah will eliminate infidelity; I am Al-Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected, the people being resurrected there after; and I am also Al-'Aqib (i.e. There will be no prophet after me)." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 732)

But the Quran and ahadith contradict this claim since these sources say that Jesus is returning to the earth in the end of days:

And because of their saying (in boast), "We killed Messiah 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of God," -- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of 'Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]: But God raised him ['Iesa (Jesus)] up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he is in the heavens). And God is Ever All-Powerful, All-Wise. And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), but must believe in him ['Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), as only a Messenger of God and a human being], before his ['Iesa (Jesus) or a Jew's or a Christian's] death (at the time of the appearance of the angel of death). And on the Day of Resurrection, he ['Iesa (Jesus)] will be a witness against them. S. 4:157-159 Hilali-Khan

Umm well because it's like how can you tell jesus what the last prophet .. the torah came before the bible .. altered after that
the bible came for that reason and then the quran due to alteration also

same background and same history and the same god saying that people are wrong in believing in the trinity and jesus will come and tell them that .. then they will believe for themselves ..
so as the bible is a holy book from god (we believe in it) so is the quran saying about jesus and mohamed peace be uppon them
    :)

EDIT: i forgot to tell you .. it's nice that you came to the muslims and asked us directly .. shows you trully want answers
Yes and don't you think they all sopke about jesus and god and the quran did also? i'm not talking about them predicting the future .. the quran (from allah who is also the god of jesus!) talked about jesus and he was mensioned in the quran 140 times!!
why would a made up religioun as you claim come and defend christianity and say it's from god and talk about jesus's miracles if it contradicts the bible?
does it make sence that we talk good about jesus and the quran and mohammed respected and loved jesus when it's all made up?
if i want to make up a religion i won't go sepport another one saying it's true also!!
see my previous Q about what god says about the bible and about the trinity (the trinity shows the bible was altered .. not all the bible but parts)
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

Please read it .. i'm not attacking but showing you some of the proofs that the quran also predicted of the alteration of the bible
    God bless :)

If I hand you a book that says I am the last prophet, am I then the last prophet????

mouhammed is not the only one who said that he is prophet..if you doubt it

    GOD addressed moses...
Deuteronomy18:18"i will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto moses, and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that i shall command him"
isn't Mohamed(pbuh) not like unto moses?
and it's mean that Mohamed is a prophet...and the Qu'ran is the word of Allah...and if Allah said Mohamed was his last prophet...so he was..
    peace

I disagree with most of the answers below.

Brother, when you want to identify someone as prophet or messenger, this person must satisfy certain characteristics and he must have miracles.

Characteristics of prophet Mohamed "PBUH", he says the truth, he is the most honest person as his enemies prescribed him.
The list wont finish about his characteristics.

    Lets talk about miracles.

    - The first miracle is the holy Quran, its the best book in the earth since memorial. It contains thousands of scientific signs. 80% of the Quran proved to be right and 20% are vague, neither proved right nor proved wrong.
How come a person who is illiterate to author such book??

    - God split the moon for him to prove for disbeliever he is prophet from god. Now new scientific researches shows that the moon was split.

    - He had the trip of Isra'a and Mirage, he headed the prayer with the messengers in Jerusalem then went to the heavens and saw the paradise and the hell. When he came back at that night, he saw one of the trade troops is coming back also to Mecca city and he told them about it, and those troops saw a light traveling though that night.

    - He talked about the future, everything he said proved to be right.

    - The first one who recognized him as prophet was a jew and this jew showed his people the prophetical mark on Mohamed shoulders.

    - Mohamed "PBUH" was mentioned in many scriptures in the world especially the old and new testament.

I agree with "dont hate me"..
you cant sit here as a muslim and jsut say "cause God said so in the Quran"..
non muslims wont believe that.. its like saying.. my book says so.. and someone will say. so what!
you have to show them proof from the Quran so as to help someone understand why you believe this..
also.. think logically.. why did God keep having to send prophets time after time after time, if they all had the same general message?.. Cuase we humans in our vanity wouldnt believe? we killed them off before the whole message was taught? we greedily an vainly changed the message?.. whatever.. God kept having to send one till we finally got it right.. notice all the other books the translations through time have lost allmost all the original message from the prophet?.. Mohammed made sure the message was finally written down once and for all, never to be changed. during his time so he could in a sense proofread it to make sure its exact wording is true to what was delievered to him..
    ..
its not a "my prophet was better than your prophet" sort of thinking... we muslims are actually to revere, respect and beleive every single prophet before him...
but finally God saw fit to give us Mohammed to make sure to wrap up all final issues and thoughts on his perfect religion..
if you have any moral issue at all in life.. you'll find an answer in the Quran. whether or not you are a muslim or not..
the Quran also offers proof.. it give humanity a challange to proof it... its there for the reading..
so now.. theres no need for any other prophet? for what..
the Quran is all comprehensive.. no need now for any other book.. nothings changed from the moment the Quran left Mohammeds mouth.. so no need for any other prophet to come to change or settle it..
Although Jesus will return at some point to make sure we all heeded the message....

Actually Jesus said that there would be a final Prophet send after he was taken up to his Father. One who would speak only that which God made him to speak and that he would be from Mekkah and rule from Medina. It even says in the bible that the angel (Gabriel) will tell him to recite and he would say I do not know how (him thinking the word means read). I love Jesus, what a great Prophet! May Allah shower down blessings and peace upon all his prophets.
