Help me stop hating The Yearling?

Question

I have to read The Yearling (the novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings) for English class and I CAN'T STAND IT AT ALL!! I can't find a way to appreciate or enjoy it, and the dialect all of the characters talk with is DRIVING ME INSANE! Does anyone know of a free study guide online (sparknotes and cliff notes don't have one) that I could use? Or, does an abriged version of the book exist? Thanks!!!

You reminded me - I saw the movie when I was very young; I hated Gregory Peck for years and refused to watch any movie that he was in. I finally forgave him when I saw To Kill a Mockingbird. Mr Peck must have done a great job when he played Jody's father, 'cause, really, how could anyone hate Gregory Peck?

I'm with you on this one: I didn't truly enjoy it. I can appreciate it as a classic and even cry over it, but I couldn't LIKE it.
