Prieto means dark-skinned and linda pretty or beautiful. Since Spanish speaking people are not obsessed with political correctness, it is a term of endearment used for someone whose complexion is darker than the average person. It only shows affection, nothing else.

this is spanish, correct? if it is prieta means a dark person, or a dark object (dark as in color) and linda means: pretty, or darling, or beautiful. This particular phrase I would translate as "beautiful dark-skinned person." It sounds a lot more endearing and cute in Spanish, believe me. The english translation is so awkward.

I totally agree with Jackie's answer.

A literal English translation is awkward at the least and insulting at worst... However, when it is said in Spanish it actually is a really nice thing to say. However, because 'prieta' is refering to a dark skin color, it is usually more appropriate to use this expression when you know each other.

If you want to use this with someone you have just met, "morenita linda" could be better. It basically means the same as 'prieta linda'. But 'morenita' has a softer tone. Like dark skin is softer than saying black skin.
