If the bride and groom pay for their wedding, who welcomes the guests?

I'm paying for my wedding, but I was wondering - should my father make the first speech welcoming the guests? I kind of want to do that since my dad is my guest too. Would that be inappropriate?

Why not, the guests dont know who is paying for the wedding do they? im sure its expected that your dad make a speech.
