If you look to the left your lying, if you look to the right your remembering?

Does this apply if your left handed? I was told left handed peoples brains were the other way round?

First of all its been mentioned in Csi tv show numerous times and it was also in the movie Samuel Jackson AND its the reason Poker players wear sunglasses indoors.
And to Jewel (?) No. If you look to the left you are accessing your creative side of the brain and if you look to the right you are connecting to your memories. But lefties are Supposed to be the opposite way round.

The system you're talking about is actually fairly reliable, but it doesn't always work that left is lying and right is remembering; nor does it seem to vary according to left- or right-handedness.
What counsellors, psychiatrists (and presumably hostage negotiators!) do is to discover which way a particular person works by asking them at least one question which they know the true answer to. Then they can proceed, knowing that for this particular individual, 'left is true' or 'left is false'.
Incidentally, it's usually 'up-and-right' and 'up-and-left' rather than just a simple right or left movement.

We have a hypnotherapist/stress counsellor in the family, for who's passed on this tip and many other handy tips for 'reading' people who aren't necesarily being straight with you.

If you want to see the eye-movement thing really clearly, find a child of five or six years old and ask them questions about what they did at school, or ask them to tell you a story. It's amazing to watch. =D

ahh but what if your cross eyed?

i usually look up, not because i'm lying, just because i'm praying i will remember the answer before i forget the question!!!!

oh and i'm ambidextrous so i'm just confused!

It depends on if you are right handed or left handed. I am right handed so if I look up to the right it means im creating a lie... If I look down to the left I am remembering.

(ANS) Frankly thats utter non sense, You cannot generalize in that way. The human psyche doesn't work in a fixed or pre-determined way. I suspect you've been reading too many NLP text books.

**NLP methods are based on a theory in other words such ideas are NOT proven and so you cannot apply such theories as facts when dealing with people.

**No! two people are the same, so what might work with one person probably wont with another. Thank goodness too as we would all end up being sole less robots other wise!

I have heard of this too and I am left-handed. It is apparently to do with which side of the brain you are accessing you unconsciously look in that direction.

Left handers are supposed to be more dominent on the opposite side of the brain to right handers, but our brain areas are not reversed so my guess is we would look in the same direction as right handers.
