How much does a tattoo artist charge for designing a tattoo with you?

I don't mean the actual tattooing but how much does it cost just to work with a tattoo artist to design a tattoo? Thanks in advance.

they shouldnt charge you anything just to draw up your tattoo, it's all a part of the process unless you already have something with you

they dont charge anything, but dont get a tattoo designed by the person youre not goin to get it done with

I'm in the process of having an old crappy tattoo removed just now and the same guy is going to help me design a new one, I have a good idea of what I want but I'm rubbish at drawing so he is going to draw it up for me based on what I tell him, he isn't charging anything extra for doing this as its all part of the process.

It's all part of the process that you pay for, and artists will usually charge around $60 an hour in my experience.

One thing to add:

It's considered very bad form to get the tattoo sketch drawn by one artist and then to bring it to another to get the work done - especially if the latter isn't as good an artist. Not nice to get the $100/hour artist's sketch and then bring it to a $50/hour artist.

Although the sketch is done gratis, there is the implicit assumption that you're going to go with that artist for the work and that is why it's free.

I'm not sure they'd be very happy to help with a design if they're not going to do the tattoo .... although I suppose if the money is right they would.

You could also look online for designs to see if you can find what you're looking for. My husband has just had an amazing tattoo done and he got the design from http://www.tattoodesignsunlimited.com

i have never been charged for my tattoos to be drawn up, my artist does it casue norm if you get it drawn by them that means you are commited to go there to them and get the tat they just might be pissed if you try to get them to give youthe drawing they prob wouldnt
