Are men the true romantics?
Camille Paglia says that men are the real romantics. They are the ones that write poetry, compose music or just give flowers... I am all for equality between the sexes, but we must admit the vast majority of composers etc. are men. No?

I think you are right, men do seem to be more romantic and sensitive than the modern day women.
We like to be romanticized whereas men are the romantics. If you look back in history, women have always been the practical ones.

- I agree with this as much as I disagree with the contributor who suggested that women have been supressed for so long they can't put pen to paper. Girls were taught the 'feminine arts' and still didn't do much with that knowledge. I think women are busy being pragmatic - biological necessity!

I disagree, though you make a great point given the volume of published works. However, I can tell you that my wife is exponentially more romantic than I could ever hope to be. I do my fair share of trying, but she always has created the most touching moments in our relationship.

In the past, most composers and poets were men because women were not taken seriously. Some female writers, such as George Eliot, assumed male pen names because they would not have been published otherwise.
