What is the best quality DVD rip to get maximum quality?

Question

We come across various DVD rips of varying sizes from 700 MB to 2 GB, but which type of DVD rip is best? Apart from DVD5 and DVD9 which one of size less than 4 GB is best? I heard a lot about AC3 6 Channels what is this thing? I need to get good quality of sound on my home theater so which type of thing should I look out for?
