I think it's working all too well.
Hillary's last-minute surge in Texas was fueled by Rush fans voting for her. It has three valuable possibilities for the GOP:
1) It keeps the Dems spending time and money fighting each other while McCain raises money for the general election.
2) It encourges Clinton and Obama to continue to tear each other down, doing the GOP's dirty work for them, and lessening Democratic chances in November.
3) It MIGHT give Hillary the nomination - and I think the GOP would much rather have Hillary as an opponent. McCain isn't conservative enough to mobilize the party base - but nothing will bring Republicans out to vote more than a chance to defeat a Clinton.
If Hillary placed America and Democratic ideals above her own personal ambitions, she would withdraw from the race and let Obama start working on defeating McCain. But she's got too much ego to let go of the possibility as long as there's even a chance to win.
