How do you get rid of those tiny bugs in your cereal?

we just moved and we've noticed that we are getting tiny little bugs (weebles- thats what my mom calls them) in our cereal and pancake mix.
we're not dirty people at all- in fact my mom makes me clean the entire house EVERY week.
what is causing them and how do we get rid of them- i'll refuse to eat cereal until they're gone.
it's gross!

    Many times it is purchased from the store with the bugs inside. On your next purchase shake the container to see if powder falls out, look for one with no leaks.
    You can sift out existing bugs and larvae then put in a sealed plastic, glass or crock container

    yep, sometimes the bugs are in there to begin with like that other person said.

    I keep all those powder things , like flour, cornstarch and such in a zip lock bag in the freezer.

    I don't keep everything in the freezer , but what ever is in the pantry is in a zip lock baggie also

    No matter what people find bugs in their food and that's a fact of life.

    Throw out any food that contains those bugs. Try storing the cereal, pankcake mix, flour, etc. in Rubber Maid products. They seal well & that will keep the bugs out. I'm thinking the bugs were in the food when you bought them or the boxes were not properly closed in between use. Make sure your mom & you don't buy outdated foods. Use the containers I mentioned for now, & using hot water & an ammonia based cleaner, (Top Job or Mr. Clean) & wash the cupboards out & wipe them out. If you still keep getting those unwanted house guests, call Orkin or Terminix, to professionally spray your home.

    ZIP-LOC bags!!!!! they are a life saver. the bugs come in the food you buy. problem is, when they get in the pantry, they get into EVERYTHING they can. its DISGUSTING!! i freaked out the first time i found them. i threw everything away, even unopened stuff. i couldnt handle the thought that bugs were in my food!! good luck!!

    Source(s):

    personal experience! they always come in the rice we buy. so if you buy rice, get an airtight container to put it in, otherwise those little things get out and get everywhere!

    Clean out every bit of grain products in your cupboards, and toss them out. When you get new flour, cereal, etc. keep them in the freezer or in glass containers with tight lids. That is the only way to get rid of them. If there is anything left in your cupboard that has any of the weevils in it, they will not go away until you have gotten rid of it. I have even had them get into plastic containers with what I thought were tight lids, so that is not a solution. Sometimes you get them already in a something from the grocery store, so when you get new cereals, put them in the freezer.

    I have also had them get into cans of paprika and ground peppers in the cupboard, so don't overlook those things. I also keep those in the refrigerator now. They will get into tea bags, and will also eat holes in plastic storage bags.
