Welcome to an amazing subculture, my friend!
There are tons of sites revolving around the various aspects of Steampunk, from art to design to invention to fashion to literature to media, and on and on!
Some of the best forums I've found are Brass Goggles and Gaslamp Bazaar:

http://www.steampunkmagazine.com/forum [my favorite]
I highly suggest reading Steampunk Magazine. It's free! [http://steampunkmagazine.com]
And also, if you're on gaiaonline [a young adults' site], there's a steampunk guild on there and my friend runs a steampunk fashion thread.
Steampunk is actually becoming increasingly popular and will continue to be so in the coming years, so don't fret that your friends think it's uncool now, they're going to be the ones in your dust soon!
