Can I unplug the fridge overnight?

Question

I sleep in a room right next to my fridge and the noise of the fridge bothers. I'd like to unplug the fridge overnight and then plug it back in the morning. Can I do this without ruining the food? or the machine?

If you've got a good door gasket you probably can. Try shutting a dollar bill in the door. If it pulls out easily it may leak the cold air in the night and that might not be safe. During power outages I have actually taken package sealing tape and taped the door shut tightly to make up for a leaky, worn gasket and that has worked fine.

You could but you might have a small water puddle.
Keep the door closed and the food should be alright but you shouldn't do it every night. Fluctuation of the temp won't be good for the food

It is possible, but not a real good idea. It really isn't good to plug & unplug major appliances on a daily basis. Electrical surges can ruin them.
Is there no insulation in the walls in your place?

As long as everything in there right now is cold...and you don't open the door...it can keep and hold a safe temp for 3 days...so doing it over night is not a problem,

I wouldn't do that , what if you have to fly ou the door one morning and you forget to plug it back in. Then your food is lost.
It shouldn't be that loudget get it checked out.
You may consider putting it on a 15 amp timer.

I would not do that, as the food will probably not last....If you must, get a timer that you can set to turn the fridge on about an hour after youve gone to sleep. the timer will have to handle 20 amps so as not to burn out..problem solved.
