Well, for the sake of NY he should. He prosecuted other prostitution rings...

thanks
I still say this was premature when asked. Now it has come out that he has been doing this for 10 years, which means that at one point he was prosecuting prostitution rings by day and using them by night. That resolves any doubt in my mind. He should resign and according to CNN he is doing so now.

Why should he? After all, it's just exchanging money for certain favors...kinda like what politicians do every day!

Did he say "I did not have sex with that woman" like Bil Clinton or "My God I have sinned" like Jimmy Swaggard?

Crooks should be fired. Those in political office should go to jail!

No, prostitution isn't an automatic killer in NY politics. It's bad, but I think it depends on what exactly happened. I doubt it will be worse than Pataki's pay to play scandle, but we'll find out soon because his press conference is about to start.

Tinker, if he were still the AG, my answer would be different. There are different things that an AG and a governer should resign over.

Edit: Well that was anticlimactic. Spitzer gave a blanket appology to his family and to the public, but didn't say what he did. I liked the politics is about ideas, not individuals stuff, and I agree, and if the individual can still get the ideas accomplished, then I don't think he can resign. I can't evaluate that yet because he didn't say what he did, and that disappoints me.

Edit: So apparently he paid for a high priced hooker across state lines. As long as he paid for it himself, he should be prosecuted the same as every other John. I don't know the typical federal penalties. In New York State, you pay a fine and go to John school where you learn in graphic detail about the horrors of prostitution. I hear its quite disgusting and effective. Former prostitutes come and talk about how some girls hide razor blades in their mouths and how virtually all of them are abused and addicts. Johns also discuss the various horrible things that have happened to them, like diseases and such. It's probably a little different in high priced rings like this, but I'm not sure how different. The principle is, of course, the same and it is just as illegal.

If he used government funds or something (there's currently no allegation of that and he has plenty of his own money), then it would be a different story. Also, if he were still AG and charged directly with prosecuting such prostitution rings, it would also be a different story. It is notable that he did prosecute prostitution rings when he was AG, so that's pretty bad for him.

depends on what he did. If he just used one, then hell no, and he should not. If he ran it, its a different thing. And maybe he should. But we need to keep Democrats in charge of Albany.

Yes, prostitution is ILLEGAL. He was involved with ILLEGAL activity.

Just as R-Senator Larry Craig resigned for propositioning a man in the bathroom............
so should D-Gov. Eliot Spitzer resign for this.

I hope so. I never trusted this guy. I always suspected his Grasso witch hunt was just a ploy to get elected as Governor. Then you hear about his meddling in Wall Street, and his 'steamroller' attitude revealed to me the utter lack of sincerity in his supposed cleanup of NY. He sought power under the guise of moral righteousness. His crusading was a simple publicity stunt. I'm glad he was outed.

He will not resign on his own. I'm sure pressure from Bruno and the NY Republicans will force him out.

Spitzer makes a good point when he says that politics is not about the individual politicians as much as it's about the policies. In the one year we have seen him as our governor he has done some great things for New York. We shouldn't veer off the track of progress because the man likes to have a little sex when he goes out of town.

He should resign. Prostituion is ILLEGAL, and disgusting. Human trafficking and sex trafficking is a serious issue: violence, rape, sexual assault, paedophilia... No form of prostitution is "okay." And Gov Spitzer was an advocate for anti-human trafficking legislation, which makes this case even sicker. Gov. Spitzer should resign, and should be prosecuted (esp. under The Mann Act -- for moving the woman over state lines for the purpose of sex trafficking).

Human trafficking and sex trafficking will never be stopped, but we shouldn't encourage it, and we should try to combat it. Just saying -- "well, in THIS case it's okay" -- is not appropriate. Prostition is illegal for a reason. If you don't think prostituion is "bad" go to any charity or organization that assists women/men/children involved in sex trafficking, and sit in on one of their group meetings/lectures. I'm sure not too many of the victims will say "Gosh, I loved my pimp. He was such a nice guy!"

This is such a sad case. WNY has a lot of trouble with human trafficking and sex trafficking (since we're so close to the Canadian border). I couldn't believe it when I saw it on the news.
