I've read a couple of GG Marquez' books and thought they were well written, page turners (A Chronicle of a Death Foretold; My Melancholy Whores). A friend of mine recommended Love in the Time of Cholera as a great read, so it's the next book I'll pick up at the library.

Having only heard great things about the book, and that I like Marquez' other work, I'd suggest that.

I've heard "Love in the Time of Cholera" is wonderful and interesting, although I haven't read it yet myself.

allende's house of spirits -- really intricate story, i'd definitely recommend it if you're into following a plot with many characters and turns. If you get into the book by the first chapter, you'll have a hard time putting it down.

I have read Cry, the Beloved Country and found it quite dull. I have not personally read Love in the Time of Cholera but have heard great things about it.

whatever you do don't read the woman warrier by maxine hong kingston. The stories are a bit complex and many are weird. It is most likely only asian-americans will relate to this book

Love in the time of Cholera..most people don't talk about great writers that aren't English while Gabriel Garcia Marquez a whiz in words i definitely recommend that

100 years of Solitude or The Poisonwood Bible . I could not choose between the two . They are both excellent ! A Fine Balance was definately a great read also . Good Luck !
