What was the deal with Edward Norton and The Italian Job?

I heard that he was forced to do it and refused to promote it. What's the story here??

Norton signed a three movie deal with Paramount when he co-starred in Primal Fear. Afterwards, he kept on dismissing scripts for the other two movies that he signed on for. Eventually the Paramount executives coerced him into signing on for the Italian Job to help fulfill his contractual obligation. Since he did not want to do the movie in the first place, he chose not to promote the film.

According to Internet Movie Database "Edward Norton made it clear that his participation is a result of contractual obligation, not choice. He signed a three movie deal with Paramount, of which Primal Fear (1996), his breakthrough movie, was the first. uhh didnt really hear nothing about it when it came out . . . . usually though it has to do with their contracts. happened to Keanu Reeves in The Watcher; studios scammed him in to a $10,000 contract. thats why he didnt promote it at all!! Also happened to Salma Hayek w/ that movie about Frida Kahlo . . . . hope ive helped somewhat.

He was under a contract to do it from whatever studio that produced it. He wasnt very thrilled with the movie at all.
