What are the best houseplants for surviving deep shade?

I work in an office with venetian blinds on the windows which are usually shut, to keep the light from getting in people's eyes. This means that there is very little natural light. We want to get some houseplants to scatter all over the room, not just by the window. What kind of plant would be best?

If you are looking for a lot of green then go for peace lilies and cast iron plants. They could grow in a closet.

Thanks; I took your advice and bought six peace lilies. To early to say how they do but they look great and everybody's pleased with them.

I've had some success with Bromeliads....just fill up the well in the centre so that you don't overwater. They come in different leaf colours, plain green or variegated and different flower colours as well.

Generally the darker the leaves the more shade a plant can tolerate.
