The House voted Thursday to hold two of President Bush’s confidants in contempt for failing to cooperate with an inquiry into whether a purge of federal prosecutors was politically motivated.
Angry Republicans boycotted the vote and staged a walkout.
The vote was 223-32 Thursday to hold presidential chief of staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers in contempt. The citations charge Miers with failing to testify and accuse her and Bolten of refusing Congress’ demands for documents related to the 2006-2007 firings.
It is the first time in 25 years that a full chamber of Congress has voted on a contempt of Congress citation.

If they are subpoenaed and they refuse to show up, yes. They'd be nothing but common criminals and should be treated as such.

hey, as long as congress is going after shadows, baseball and now football, maybe it will keep them out of my pocket for a few days, or keep them from taking away more of my freedoms any sooner. Let them waste all the time they want. The less productive for them the better off we all are.

This is a good question...except for the part about the shackles. I think they should be cited for contempt. Why should they be able to ignore a request by a Congressional inquiry and refuse to produce pertinent records? It's not okay to just say, "Nope, I don't want to testify or produce records." There would be consequences for you, or me!
