If an f1 car passed you at maximum rpm one foot away, what average level of noise in decibels would you hear?

Oh, a lot, maybe enough to deafen you.

I've been 2 meters away and it hurts your ears. Maybe about 120+ decibels.

I didn't have a decibel reader with me when that happened but it was the best sound I heard for the rest of the day :-)

The noise level in the cockpit reaches 130dB. Probably more of the noise goes backwards and sideways than forwards, so I'm going to say 135-140dB

Put it this way... your ears sense serious vibrations before you even hear the car coming. Those cars are defeaning when you see them up close and personal!!!

I found this website that states...

I have measured them exiting the pits before from about three rows back in the stand and they were consistently in the 90's (LAeq, short term (logarithmic energy average)). As for one foot I'd say around 105 - 110 dBA.

Keeping in mind a 9" grinder cutting 1/4" steel at one foot is around 107 ish. A 747 at take off, next to the engine is around 120 with 140 being the threshold of human pain. So i'd be surprised if it was more than 110.
