Grouply is under serious scrutiny (appalled scrutiny) by YahooGroups list owners for a wide variety of security and list violation reasons. (I know, I'm one of them and am involved in the discussions.)

It IS a problem that they require your YahooGroups ID and password - anyone who's been on the internet for more than three seconds knows not to give out that information to anyone who asks for it uninvited and to look askance at anyone who does.

Many list owners are banning/removing people who access their lists through Grouply, and are working with the Grouply founders to fix the serious security problems that were discovered by list owners testing the system out of necessity because their lists' integrity was being compromised. The problems are legion, are being worked on (albeit with some reluctance in the case of some, and not addressed at all in the case of the inquiry as to whether it would be possible for Grouply to work WITHOUT the necessity of providing ID and password - resounding silence there), However, I, for one, as a responsible list owner, won't be allowing Grouply members to be on my lists until all the problems are satisfactorily resolved.

I too am a list owner and have only just heard about Grouply. How do you identify Grouply members when they ask to join or after they have already joined your group?

I would avoid Grouply like the plague it is!!
Wasted an entire day sending the message below...
Just so you know:

There was clearly some Grouply 'bug'. I did NOT send you any 'friend requests' (not that I don't want to be your friend, mind you). My apologies for your inconvenience!! Now I'm getti

I have had several of these invites and i have declined them all. I never give out my passwords for any account. At the very least to do so you are opening yourself up to the possibility of identity theft, made more serious because I am a group administrator. Grouply block link doesn't work either.

There is a class action law suit pending judge acceptance, and grand jury seating, against Googly. It is supposed to convene by or before Feb. 1, 2009. So, if you have a business interest in Googly, and you have already left

Indy Doc:
What is "Googly"? We are discussing Grouply here.

Back on topic:
Grouply has nothing worthwhile to offer. Web interfaces for email suck. All my group memberships are set to Daily Digest, and are sent to my Gmail account because Gmail gives POP services for free.

I have not accepted any invite to the Grouply list/group or whatever it is. But, I did just create a filter in my yahoo mail to send EVERY Grouply invite to the trash...! If you also want to make up a filter click on "Mail Options" in your yahoo mail, click on "Filters" and then make up a filter.

I got an invite from someone who says they know me from a Yahoo Group but I don't recognize every single person on Yahoo groups so I didn't accept. I don't click on links in email for groups I do not recognize or from people I don't recall. I remember at 1st when facebook had issues tho so who knows

Technically grouply isn't a word at www.m-w.com or urbandictionary.com. I went to grouply.com and it appears to be some place to get all of your messages at one spot.

Very much like Trillian, the program that combines Yahoo Msg, AIM, and ICQ into one program.

I would trust them, only because the people who really want that don't usually have the most important information. I have no important information in my email, notices of Best Answers, bots on Myspace, you know, boring spam stuff.

I'd give my password to them, let them delete it :P

    They seem trustworthy though.

I got an email saying that it used your email address to send out spam in your name...porn, spam, get rich quicks...IMO, anyone that needs my password . . . well, that's just not smart. Why take chances? If yahoogroups can send me daily digests then why would I need someone else to digest for me? Not worth the risk for me. I value my friends, and sending them a bunch of spams is not my idea of valuing friendship. People that I know who have tried have started getting tons of spam and not all of their messages.

No, Grouply is not identity theft at all. This is unfortunately a horrible rumor a few people are spreading across the internet. Grouply is designed to be a tool that not only helps you manage your Yahoo!, Google and other groups better (although, currently they only support Yahoo! Groups) but also for group members to socialize with each other.

They are a legitimate company, funded through VCs and the owners are very amiable and friendly.

I have been trying Grouply for a while now. Like every new tool out there, there are kinks in their armor, and they are fixing it as they go.

Hope this helps. Visit http://grouply.com with an open mind. I was a little against it myself initially, but my thinking changed as the days passed, especially with the responsive customer service.
