Acer aspire 3000 battery problem?

Can anyone tell me why the aspire battery stops the keyboard and mouse from working. If the battery is in they stop working, if it is removed it works again. This seems to be a common problem. Is there a patch to stop this. Has acer done a recall on batteries? Why? Why?Why?

Hi, I have an Aspire 3003LWi. ACPI, which does power management, works with the battery, keyboard, and mouse, so this sounds like an ACPI problem to me. I know for a fact that the ACPI implementation on the 3000's is buggy. I am a Linux user and on my laptop, I was unable to see the battery level. I was able to override the ACPI using a thing called the DSDT. I don't know if its possible to override the DSDT when you're in Windows, so I don't know if this is an option for you.

I would try a Linux LiveCD such as Knoppix (this won't touch your data) to see if you still have the keyboard problem in another operating system.

Also, the latest BIOS revision in the US is 3a27, but in Europe, they have released 3a32. I'm running 3a32 without a problem.

I think ie may be the battery is run out, if you need a new one ,you can go to http://www.laptop-battery-inc.co.uk/laptop-batteries/acer.htm or http://www.power-batteries.net/notebook/acer.html select the acer battery you need.

I had an acer aspire battery go bad on me similarly. It was running XP, and froze whenever the battery was put in.

The laptop is now working happily with a battery on ubuntu. No fiddling with dsdt or anything required to get ubuntu working. I just installed it, poked the battery in, and voila!

Doesn't sound like a battery problem. Try changing the power settings on your system. Go to the screen saver properties and click the "power" button. Change the "power Scheme" to "Always On" and see if that makes a difference.

If not, go to Acer's web site and see if they have any firmware updates for your model of laptop. There may be a problem in the power management that needs an upgrade.

The only other thing I could think of would be a bad system board, but let's try not to think about that until a last resort.
