Student Loans with a divorce?

Me and my wife are divorcing after 115 years of marriage. She incurred over 50,000 in debt from student loans. When we divorce is it legal for her lawyer to make me pay half her student loans which are only in her name. The loans were taken out while we were married. And if so can I make her pay half of my loans and other bills that are just in my name but have ruined my credit and they also were incurred during the marriage? She makes more money than me and has a college degree? Any help would be great. Oh by the way we live in the state of Nevada.

Been there. I had 50K of student loan debt but I accumulated it prior to marriage so it was clearly mine to repay after the divorce. However, in many most states, any debt accumulated during marriage is shared. But I am not familiar with the laws specific to Nevada. So technically, yes you are probably responsible for her loans but she is also responsible for any debt you have . They will take an asset/debt ratio, both incomes and divide it proportionately. There are many variables. You need to speak with an attorney specific to your state to get the answers if you do not already have one.
